That little something extra

No Indian meal or snack is complete without a chutni to add that extra bit of zip and zing. India has almost as many chutnies as it does gods! And, like the gods, they are an integral part of everyday life in India. The word ‘chutni’ comes from the Sanskrit word ‘chaat’, which essentially means “lick-your-fingers well”. Whereas a British ‘chutney’ tends to be a sweet and vinegary condiment, Indian chutnies can vary between sweet, spicy, tangy, nutty and zingy.

The chutnies are absolutely excellent. I could eat them with just a bit of bread - so yummy

What we love to make with our chutnis

We love getting creative with our chutnies - just like they do in India. You can use them in the traditional way as a dip or dolloped on top of your meal. But they are also really great kitchen-helpers and double-up as a way to enrich the flavour of a sauce, a stir-fry or to transform a marinade or dipping sauce. The possibilities are endless. They are the ultimate kitchen hacks for home cooks and we’ve made them in little single-serve pots so nothing goes to waste. Have a look in our ‘Cook’ section for some delicious easy recipes using our chutnies.
